Webinar
All organisational and individual members of the IAP are invited to join us for a webinar organised by the International Association of Prosecutors Global Training Academy in conjunction with the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI).

Speakers:
  • Francesca Restifo, Senior Human Rights Lawyer and UN Representative of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI)
  • Melanie Santizo, Human Rights Officer advising the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers
Facilitator: Irina Beridze, Executive Programme Manager, International Association of Prosecutors

This webinar will explore how prosecutors can strengthen their engagement with the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Procedures, with a particular focus on cooperation with the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of judges and lawyers. The discussion will highlight the role of Special Procedures in contribution to safeguarding prosecutorial impartiality, supporting accountability, and addressing threats or interference affecting prosecutors and the justice system.

Participants will gain an overview of the mandate and working methods of the Special Rapporteur, as well as practical insights on how prosecutors and prosecutorial networks can engage with the Special Procedures system - with particular focus on the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on independence of judges and lawyers - such as through information-sharing, submissions, and dialogue on systemic challenges affecting prosecutorial independence.

The webinar aims to foster greater awareness of available UN mechanisms and to encourage constructive collaboration between prosecutors and international human rights experts to strengthen the rule of law and the independence of justice institutions.

This 60-minute webinar will be held in English, and no interpretation will be provided. However, attendees can access live, automated translated captions via the Zoom platform during the webinar.  All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

The webinar is open to all IAP organisational and individual members.

Please note that this webinar will be recorded.
