The Policy on The Conduct of Cases of Prosecutors In Difficulty (the Policy) was adopted by the IAP's Executive Committee on October 28, 2024. It regulates the ways in which the IAP processes requests for assistance from prosecutors, prosecution agencies or associations of prosecutors claiming to be in difficulty.

The Standing Committee on Prosecutors in Difficulty (SCPID) was established in 2013 in accordance with Article 8.2(m) of the IAP Constitution. It acts in accordance with the Policy. It is responsible for the processing of requests for assistance received from prosecutors by the IAP, and sometimes acts on its own initiative when it becomes aware of prosecutors facing difficulty.

The SCPID comprises three members, drawn from the IAP Executive Committee and the IAP Senate.  It is chaired by Grenville Cross SC (IAP Senator, Hong Kong, China) and comprises William J Downer SC (IAP Senator, South Africa) and Manuel Pinheiro Freitas (IAP Vice President, Brazil). Its members serve for three year terms, which may be renewed.
