13th Regional Conference - 2013

Date: Wednesday 6 March 2013

Location: The Hague, the Netherlands

The Hague, the Netherlands 6 - 8 March 2013, 13th Regional Conference:
“Gender Justice”
Attendance: 59 participants from 21 countries.

This conference has been designed to coincide with International Women's Day on 8th March

About the conference:

The IAP now has regional conferences in 6 regions throughout the world, but the longest standing regional conference is the IAP European Regional Conference, which traditionally has always been held in the City Hall in The Hague. It attracts operational and generally more junior prosecutors from all over Europe and sometimes beyond-usually about 50-60 and is always well received. The event takes on a more informal and educative stance than some of the other conferences, and we try to choose themes which raise awareness amongst those attending who may be meeting prosecutors from beyond their jurisdiction for the first time. The language is English and there is always a realbuzz about this event.

Target Group:

As well as presenting an interesting and informative programme of practical value to any prosecutor in Europe who finds him or her self dealing with cases –involving gender issues, such as domestoc violence, honour killings, genital mutilation, human trafficking, this event allows prosecutors from all over Western Europe and sometimes beyond to mix with each other thus improving understanding across borders and promoting a greater sense of community between prosecutors wherever they are located.

Conference Theme:

The topic we have chosen this year is ‘Gender Justice’ we want to look at some or all the following themes (there may be others)

  • Domestic Violence
  • Honour violence/killings
  • Forced Marriage
  • Genital Mutilation
  • Human Trafficking-sexual exploitation and enslavement (perhaps in particular the increase in use of witch craft (ju ju) to exert power) .We shall also take the opportunityto review how the newly launched IAP specialist Trafficking in Persons Platform(‘TIPP’) is performing.
  • Use of sexual violence in conflict as weapon of war

The number of participants is limited to 60 and places at the conference will be allocated on a “first-come, first-served” basis and so you are encouraged to register early. The IAP reserves the right to restrict the number of participants from each country or region in order to achieve a proper balance.
